Clarence Otis Jr.

His parents didn’t graduate high school, but they believed in the power of education. His father, a custodian, took his children on Sunday drives around the mansions that dotted the Beverly Hills landscape. He wanted to show them the possibilities that an education could afford. Otis Jr. grew up in the tough Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles and, through education, worked his way up to being the CEO of Darden Restaurants, Inc., parent company of Olive Garden, Longhorn Stakehouse, Red Lobster, etc. His story is an incredible testimony to hard work, and the good fortune that comes as a result of it.
